An attractive underglaze blue & white bowl with decorative bands of flowers and landscapes around a central scene with two adults and a child in 18th-century European clothing. The painting is simple and effective, and executed in several shades of underglaze cobalt blue on a very white ground, with a reddish-brown rim. The outside (see view below) has three identical elaborate renderings of scrolls bound with flowing ties and Buddhist sacred jewels, in underglaze cobalt transfer print. |
Bowl in very white porcelain with hand-painted interior and transfer exterior underglaze blue decoration and reddish-brown rim, measuring 9 3/4" in diameter and 2 3/8" deep. On the base is a two-character mark (see below) unidentified. Probably 20th century rendering of classic design. |
