Katazome
panels are usually from futon, or quilt, covers. The covers are made from
panels the width of the traditional Japanese loom, about 12", sewn together with, in
most cases, a solid indigo back, and quilted through the cotton stuffing. When they
became soiled, they were removed and sometimes the individual panels taken apart and
reassembled to distribute wear evenly. |
